Birds of Thailand!
Currently there are 1101 species of birds in the Kingdom of Thailand. Up until a couple years ago, I only gave this group passive interest, however if there was a cool bird nearby when I was hunting mammals, I would generally snap a pic or two, mainly for documentation rather than worrying about hi-res quality images. During the Covid years, I, with the help of a couple outstanding birders (Ben and Jan!) I discovered birds for real and ended up spending hundreds of hours in Thailand actually targeting bird species and trying for better images. Sometimes I have even been moderately successful.
While I have lived in Thailand for over ten years now, I have assembled a solid collection of images of the fauna of the country - perhaps more than any other I have visited or lived in. (Link to Mammals of Thailand here) Even more than North America? As of this publication, I have documented 570+ species of birds inside the boundaries of Thailand as shown in the below gallery - a bit more than half. Although I have images of many species found in Thailand but photographed in other countries, I have not included those in this gallery. As I have no plans on leaving Thailand in the near future, I suspect this gallery will grow.
I have not followed any specific taxonomic order in this gallery. Rather I basically followed a semi-alphabetical order based on general common name. For examples, “ducks” will be in one area of the gallery while “teals”, even though in the same family, will be in a later section. Sorry if this is confusing. I have better taxonomic groupings of the bird class in the above linked section on birds, which is still a work in progress. Simply follow the link above to see what I have posted so far.
I would love to think the below gallery is filled with 100% correct identifications, but alas, I am sure there are mistakes. Please do not hesitate to send me corrections if you are so inclined! Cheers.
